Woman of the Year
Clara Simmons
Clara Simmons is the wife Chris Simmons a football and head boys track coach at Perryton High School. Clara has served on the THSCWA Board of Directors as a region 1 director and assistant director and will serve as the president elect for this year. She and Chris have been coaching all over the state for the past 17 years, with stops at Wellington, Perryton, Fritch, Hamlin, City View, Borger, and will coach this upcoming year in Perryton! Clara and Chris have two boys who love being on the field with dad, Cy and Cal. When not on the field with dad, you will see them in everything sports related!
Clara was nominated as the 2024 Woman of the Year because she embodies the very essence of the mission of the THSCWA: to promote good fellowship and social contact among coaches' wives.
In one nomination letter a fellow wife gave a perfect example of why she was an excellent candidate for 2024 WOY. “In the aftermath of the June 2023 tornado in Perryton and the Panhandle’s 2024 Smokehouse Creek Fire, Clara's role as a beacon of support for the community became even more apparent. Her ability to provide comfort, encouragement, and a sense of belonging to those navigating the complexities of life during challenging times speaks volumes about her commitment to the well-being of others including her coaches’ wife community. This of course is on top of her care and compassion pouring in to the many coaches’ wives in Borger and Perryton, most recently.”
